    SAT / GRE

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is used by American universities and colleges to make undergraduate admission decisions.

Usually taken in the junior or senior year of high school, its primary aim is to test students’ reading, mathematics and writing knowledge and how well they can apply it. SAT and high school results (WAEC, NECO and GCE) are combined to assess students’ understanding of various subjects. For international students, the cost of taking the SAT is $91, and it can be attempted multiple times a year. Although some of the test centers have been closed due to fraudulent examination practices, students can still take the exam if they are willing to travel. The test is three hours and 45 minutes long, and scores range from 600 to 2400. The SAT does not mirror the high school curriculum, but is practical in structure and style of questioning.

Guides for the SAT can be purchased or downloaded online via this link. The Graduate Record Exam (GRE) is used to determine the eligibility of students for graduate programs. There are two types: the GRE general test and the GRE subject test. The GRE general test measures general aptitude, or what students have learned in high school and university. The GRE subject test, on the other hand, measures specific knowledge in areas like physics or chemistry. The length of the test is the same as that of the SAT, and the score ranges from 130 to 170. Any undergraduate student wishing to pursue a master’s or PhD abroad should take the GRE, textbooks and manuals for which are available online.
